COVID-19 Updates

The Rocky Mountain International Student program is now requiring all applicants for 2022 be fully vaccinated with the complete series of an accepted vaccine. Our school district is committed to the health and wellness of our international students and host families and follows the guidance of the British Columbia Provincial Health Officer (Dr. Bonnie Henry), the Ministry of Health and the BC Centre for Disease Control.

At this time, all students in our schools are required to wear masks in all indoor areas (including at desks and on school buses), complete daily health checks and stay home if feeling unwell.  Students can participate in music and physical education programs, sports, clubs and extracurricular activities.

As travel restrictions and entry requirements change frequently, it is important to be familiar with the Canadian and BC provincial government websites and check for updates regularly.

Current requirements are as follows:

Requirements for entry into Canada for fully vaccinated travelers

Pre-entry test: All travelers 5 years of age or older, regardless of citizenship or vaccination status, must provide proof of a COVID-19 negative molecular test result taken within 72 hours of your scheduled departure to Canada, or proof of a previous positive test result taken between 14 and 180 days. Rapid antigen tests aren't accepted. RMISP will provide a list of accepted tests.

Quarantine plan: Fully vaccinated travellers are no longer required to quarantine in most cases, but you must have a plan in place in case a border services agent determines that you must quarantine upon arrival. RMISP will assist students with their quarantine plans.

ArriveCAN app: You must use ArriveCAN on your phone to enter your proof of vaccination, quarantine plan and travel information within 72 hours of your departure time. ArriveCAN is free and easy to use. RMISP will provide instructions.

Document checklist: Have the following items with you for assessment by a government official at the border:

  • ArriveCAN receipt with letter I or V beside the vaccinated traveler's name
  • Proof of vaccination, including paper copies
  • Proof of negative result of molecular pre-entry test
  • Other travel documents (passport, ETA/study permit approval letter)

Arrival tests: Upon your entry to Canada, the border services officer will notify you if you are required to take an arrival test.  This requirement changes frequently in response to the emergence of COVID variants.
