This public holiday remembers the children who did not come home from residential schools. It also honors the people who survived these schools, and their families and communities. Remembering this sad and painful history—and how it still affects people today—is an important part of healing and reconciliation.

Labour Day is a holiday in Canada that celebrates workers. It is a day to thank people for their hard work. Many people enjoy the day off with family and friends. It unofficially marks the end of summer and start of fall in Canada.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

This public holiday remembers the children who did not come home from residential schools. It also honors the people who survived these schools, and their families and communities. Remembering this sad and painful history—and how it still affects people today—is an important part of healing and reconciliation.
Schools will be closed, but students are encouraged to participate in Orange Shirt Day activities in their community.
